Jazzmin is a quartet consisting of Jacqueline King on vocals, Simpson Desbonne on guitars, Loren Hughes on keyboards/synthesizers, and Mike Jackson on drums.
The music you are listening to was recorded live at various venues, directly from our Mackie SR-24-4 mixing console. Use a good set of headphones in order to get the full benefit of these high fidelity recordings!
Jacquie is a classically trained vocalist who performs songs made famous by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sade, Norah Jones, Astrud Gilberto, Sarah Vaughan, and Stevie Nicks, to name just a few. She has thrilled audiences for the past few years at venues on St. Croix including Sandcastle on the Beach, Deeanna' s Restaurant, Carambola Resort (Mahogany Room), and Jazz Vespers. She consistently receives very high praise for her vocal skills.
Though here for many years, Jacqueline only recently began performing music on St. Croix. Prior to moving to the big island she lived, worked, and performed mostly in her native New York, to include venues like Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and West Point Military Academy. She has done musical tours through the Eastern United States, parts of Europe including Romania, Greece, and Holland, as well as parts of the Caribbean.
Simpson is a guitarist who enjoys playing styles ranging from Flamenco to Jazz. He also does some lead vocals, preferring the classic soft-rock styles of groups like The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, and America, among others. Simpson was one of the original members of the world-famous reggae group "The Midnite Band", and occasionally contributes guitar tracks to their albums. He was the guitar player for the Code 9 Band which was for years the most popular party band on St. Croix.
Loren is an accomplished pianist/saxophonist/drummer who majored in Music at Florida A&M. He is often called upon to arrange music for, and accompany, various local and visiting artists at high-visibility venues such as Sunset Jazz. Loren was also the keyboardist for the Code 9 Band, which was wildly popular locally for a few years.
Mke was co-leader of the ‘Soul Side’ band, along with Sammy Watts, former guitarist for ‘The Isaac Hayes Experience’.
Mike has worked with a number of prominent artists, including Brooke Benton, Vivian Reed, Cannon Ball Adderly, Marvin Gaye, Lord Short Shirt, Lord Kitchener, Joe Simon, and many others. He brings a lot of energy to the group.
